College Basketball Over Under Bet

College basketball wagers center around March Madness or the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in the United States. A total of 68 teams qualify for the tournament aptly played during March and April.

In college basketball over under betting, you are wagering that the game's number of points would either be over or under a specified total. A college basketball over under bet looks like:

UCLA Over 116 -115
Kentucky Under 116 -105

In the example above, betting $115 on "over 116 points" wins you $100 if the game's total points is 117 or more. Meanwhile, betting $105 on "under 116 points" wins you $100 if the game's total points is 115 or less.

If in case the game ends with a total of 116 points, the bookmaker will declare it a push (tie), and all bets are retuned.

The winner of the game is irrelevant to the outcome of a college basketball over under bet. All that matters is the total number of points scored.

Thirty-two teams earn automatic bids as their respective conference champions. The remaining 36 tournament slots are given to at-large bids, which are determined by the Selection Committee (conference commissioners and school athletic directors appointed by the NCAA) in a nationally televised event called Selection Sunday on the Sunday before the First Four play-in tournament.

The committee also determines where all sixty-eight teams are seeded and placed in the bracket.

The appeal of college basketball wagers is in its single-elimination tournament format. This increases the chance of an underdog "Cinderella team" advancing to subsequent rounds. Although these lower-ranked teams play stronger teams, they need only one win to advance which makes every game very important.

The tournament consists of several rounds which are named:

  • The First Four
  • The First Round (the Round of 64)
  • The Second Round (the Round of 32)
  • The Sweet Sixteen (Regional Semi-finals)
  • The Elite Eight (Regional Finals)
  • The Final Four (National Semi-finals)
  • The National Championship

UCLA has the record for the most NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championships with 11 national titles. John Wooden coached UCLA to 10 of its 11 titles. The University of Kentucky has the second most number of national titles with eight. The University of North Carolina is in third place with six titles. Duke University and Indiana University are tied for fourth with five national titles.
